ECS and our sister division RecordSave have extensive experience dealing with archival manuscripts and public record books. Working in conjunction with multiple county courthouses, registry of deeds and local government offices, ECS and RS have performed conservation treatments and reformatting on public records and books dating as early as the 17th century. The heavy use of public records often results in large and extensive use of pressure sensitive tape, the addition of supplemental page attachments and information, damaged leaves, and broken bindings. ECS and RS have treated many of these volumes either by encapsulation and insertion into records style binders or sewn on tabs and post bound to ensure continued access while others are bound in a manner to maintain their original format.
All material is insured “door-to-door” during transport on an HF Group vehicle and while on site at at our facility.

Our document reproduction service can create preservation photocopies of brittle and deteriorated bound library and archival material. Typically these are damaged volumes with paper that is too brittle to rebind yet the content must be preserved.

Designed to protect fragile or over-sized documents, ultrasonic encapsulation in polyester film is completely reversible. Prior to encapsulation, all materials are cleaned to remove surface dirt and non-aqueously deacidified, as appropriate.
